Surviving the Quarantine

The virus has placed us  in a tough situation-physically, financially, and psychologically.  It is especially difficult for folks with Type A  Personalities

Some folks cope with the quarantine doing puzzles, reading, knitting, TV, Netflix, etc.  These are great but some of us need a little more. .  I have posted some suggestions for getting through this mess-I hope they help!

1.  Stay in contact with friends and relatives-phone, emails, Face time or Skype, etc.  Zoom is a great way to keep in contact with groups.  I know a woman that has a one hour "conference chat" with her friends at 7:00 every Thursday.  They call it "Thirsty Thursday" and they chat and laugh for an hour-drinking wine in the PJ's wearing no make-up!  They have a wonderful time

2. Make something!  Knit, make a bird house, whittle or carve, paint, model plane of boat, etc.  You get a great sense of satisfaction from creating!

3, Repair, decorate, organize,, closets, basements, garages, attics.  Sharpen your lawnmower blades, wax your car, etc.

4.. Gardening and landscaping:  rake , trim trees and bushes, burn or compost . For children, plant seeds in a paper cup or glass jar and watch them grow.  Radish seeds germinate quickly!

5.  Cook-I mean try new recipes experiment-the internet is loaded with recipes.  Kids love to cook-especially cookies, jello, etc.  Try cooking like our ancestors-beans, soups , rice, (I hope the quarantine is soon lifted, but .... )

6.Exercise-for both physical and mental health. Sometimes you just have to "get out".   I know we are supposed to stay at home but hiking , walking, jogging, and bicycling are extremely beneficial.  Our State Parks are open for these activities. Trexler Game Preserve has 1100 acres open to the public-I was hiking there the other day and I saw more bison than people.  It's easy to practice Social Distancing

We'll get through this!!  We've done it before- I was a little boy during WWII-we used honey to sweeten ;  sugar, food, gasoline , tires,  and meat were rationed..

As Rosie the Riveter said. "We Can Do It"!
