Lehigh River- A Jewel in our Backyard

One of the best kept secrets in the Lehigh Valley is its river. Few people know of it and it's pristine beauty and easy access.
The Lehigh is somewhat of a wilderness river in that it was the only privately owned river-which totally restricted shoreline development.
Most folks think of the whitewater stretch in the Lehigh Gorge-they don't realize that the stretch before Allentown and then to the Delaware River is "easy water" and can be paddled by almost anyone.

Wildlands Conservancy-Bike and Boat Program

This is another "Backyard Jewel" - a guided river trip from Allentown's Canal Park down to Bethlehem. After getting out of the canoe, you get a mountain bicycle and pedal about 4.1 miles along the scenic canal-back to the starting point. In the last ten years over 25,000 people have taken the trip. I served as naturalist for several years-stopping half way down- on an island - discussing the flora and fauna plus the rich history of the area.
Google Wildlands Conservancy of Emmaus for details and contact numbers-it's a great trip!
