Goschenhoppen Folk Festival

This festival is one of the best in the country.  It is totally authentic and completely devoid of commercialism.  The purpose of the event is education-to show how our ancestors lived and worked.  Here you will see demonstrations not seen anywhere else: butchering of a steer and a pig  with processing of the meat into scrapple, sausage, craklins,lard,etc,-rope and paper making, along with old laundry techniques.
The festival is divided into two centuries-18th and 19th-the former cooking on open flames and fireplaces and all machines are "man" powered.  The 19th century show cast iron stoves cooking everything from chow chow to pies and pig stomach.  All craftsmen (and craftswomen) are very knowledgeable and enjoy sharing their expertise
.  One visit and you admit-it is the BEST!
