Riding the Rocky Mountains! Happiness is a Son-a Mountain, and a motorcycle(and a daughter).

My son Shane and I just completed a two week adventure in the Rocky Mountains.  It was a trip I'll remember forever!  We rode over magnificant peaks, camped in a high mountain meadow along a sparkling stream, saw lots of animals. visited abandoned gold mines , fly fished for trout and met some really interesting people.

Campsite:  We had a great campsite along a small mountain stream.

Cooking and Scurvy: Our fridge gave us some problems and we ended up with a large quanity of big smoked sausages that were frozen.  For several days, all we ate were the sausages! A couple from Kansas stopped by and chatted.  I told them I thought I was getting Scurvy for lack of fruit and too many smokies!  She went to her camper and brought us a big container of cantaloupe-she said she didn't want us to get SCURVY!

Interesting man:  We met a lone BMW Rider and I started a chat.  His name was Keith Lecker and he said he had a terminal disease and decided to try and ride the Continential Divide between Mexico and Alaska.  I invited  him to camp next to us and we shared a lot-his wife was driving a motorhome as a support back up.  She was from Mars, Pa.the same town where my friend Bruce was raised.  He gave me his card, "Last Ride" with a website to follow his adventure-   share.garmin.com/lastride   I wish him the best!

Fishing:

We bought a five day fishing license and had a great time.

Tin Cup-an old gold and silver mining town.  It consists of a dozen or so old log cabins, a church and a trading post. I love how rustic and authentic the town has remained.  A local woman sells barbeque from her cabin porch and we had to try a meal.  She introduced us to Frank-a 97 year old miner who has spent the last 91 summers in Tin Cup.  It was like a scene

from the movie, "The Great Outdoors"!

The trip was the best Father's Day Gift-ever.  Just a wonderful experience!

Your Happy Place

Where is your "Happy Place"? For many, it's a beach. For me, it is the mountains-riding an ATV, canoeing and one of my very favorites-fly fishing. I just came back from a few days on Penn's Creek. It's like a Zen Experience and difficult to explain. Fly fishing is different and challenging. You need many skills to be successful. The most difficult is entemology -knowing what insects are hatching and what trout are eating. Then you have to match that insect from your array of hand tied flies -made from animal fur and feathers. Aquatic Insects spend most of their life in a nymph stage and then emerge from the water-reproduce and die. There is so much more like casting, presentation hooking and landing. But, once you catch some good sized fish, you are "hooked" (groan). I guess it's much like a hole in one golfing-all strikes in bowling, etc.

Memorial Day Parade with David Christian

I always volunteer and antique auto for the Memorial Day Parade. This year it was my Honor to transport David Christian-one of the most decorated soldiers of the Viet Niam War.
